I have been thinking about this for quite some time on the reason why there is no African AI Act that will oversee the AI activities in Africa when other continental regions are already developed theirs.

Tella, this is such an important question, and honestly, it’s one a lot of people are quietly asking right now.

Part of the gap comes down to timing and priorities. Many African markets are still trying to fully structure traditional IP systems, so AI regulation hasn’t caught up yet. But that also means we’re at a critical moment, we’re not late, we’re early enough to shape it properly.

The bigger concern is that if policy doesn’t move soon, the rules will be defined elsewhere and we’ll just inherit them.

Conversations like this are exactly how that starts to change.
