Layot, I will say this is a good read and also a brilliant piece.
I think it's high time top guys in the creative industry in Africa sit up and come up with a business model that will scale the creative industry to a higher level, most especially the moneitzation part. One thing I noticed that African creative industry is still struggling with is the centralized systems for monetizations, structured institutions and a well formed design thinking for a greater advantage in the long run.
Tella, this is such a sharp observation, especially around centralization and structure.
A lot of what’s holding the industry back isn’t creativity, it’s systems. Monetization, distribution, and institutional support are still fragmented, so even when great formats emerge, the value doesn’t scale with them.
That’s really the opportunity with vertical drama. If it’s built with monetization, platform ownership, and structured pipelines from the start, it could fix some of the exact gaps you mentioned instead of repeating them.
The real question now is who steps in to build that system intentionally.
Few days ago, a thought was playing in my head on the reason why those who are the forefront in this sector can learn, observe, replicate and fine-tune the framework that is being used in the western world with paying attention to our way of doing businesses here in respect to what we are a talking about to see how African won't just produce while those who started this will not come to the continent tomorrow and lay the framework, earn the dividends and give back peanuts.
Layout, I will day this is a good read and also, a brilliant piece.
